Anoula’s travel notebook.
With its 11 800 inhabitants, Agios Nicholaos looks like a small French riviera town, with no great interest in comparison with Hania or Rethymnon. It is overcrowded in July and August, and with its small interior lake which is beautiful and worth to see, you can’t make a move around it without being hailed by a restaurant owner, speaking several languages!
However Agios Nicholaos can be the starting point to go to Spinalonga Island by boat, also called the Lepers’ Island, but you could find the ticket fare quite expensive.
